AST received the order for the construction of the solar water heating system for the thermal bath Ehrenberg. The Reuttener Kommunalbetriebe GmbH, owner of the new bath, decided on a completely new solar water heating system of AST.

The technicians of AST have developed a system based on a combination of a solar water heating unit and a heat pump. This combination makes it possible to heat the swimming pool water not only in the summer season, which is the normal classical working period of solar heating systems, but also at lower temperatures. The heating of the water is done by means of:

• a solar water heating unit combined with a heat pump
• an additional gas heating

The support of the solar water heating system with a heat pump becomes necessary, since the operator of the indoor swimming pool wants to guarantee constant water temperature. According to the plans, this system works up to an outside temperature of 5-7°C. When this temperature is reached, the gas heating will be used for heating the water to the desired temperature. 

This innovative system represents an enormous energy-saving potential and guarantees a cost-efficient operation of the thermal bath Ehrenberg.

AST plans, delivers and installs solar water heating units for municipal swimming pools since 1986. More than 400 solar water heating systems with a total area of more than 145.000m² make it possible to save 43.500.000Kwh of heat energy per year- and that in a cost-efficient and eco-friendly way. In addition, over 16 million kilograms of Co2 emission can be saved per year.
